BABY BEDROOM STEPS

BABY BEDROOM STEPS

Several months ago, John said he wanted to speak to me about something (never a good sign) and once we were sitting down he said, “We need to talk about how you hate the bedroom.” I denied it, honestly believing that he was crazy, but I am here to admit he merely saw the truth before I did. I hate the bedroom. For reference, here is a photo of the room when I last repainted the walls:

Excuse the crappy photos. At the time I loved everything about this and thought it looked like a fancy hotel. I realize now that it looks like a hospital. It’s been updated since in a very minor way:

New bed, new nightstands, not much difference. And still a terrible photo.

Ever since my (belated) realization of my loathing of the bedroom, I have been searching for inspiration for a redo. All I knew is that I was done with neutral - I want a bedroom with personality. Thankfully, both of the two friends I have in CT are interior-design minded, and one of them snagged a couple of lumbar pillows for me at Home Goods. And that was it - I had my inspiration for a new bedroom. The universe was speaking to me through these pillows. I know it sounds crazy to redo one’s whole bedroom based on a $19.99 pillow from Home Goods, but who am I to stand in the way of the universe.

Getting the pillows was easy (mostly because Shelly got them for me and then delivered them to my home) but change is hard. Especially change that involves a lot of work - which come to think of it, all change does. That could be a definition for change: A lot of fucking work.

Luckily, I have my second CT BF Shannon, and she too is desperate to redo her bedroom. And since the idea of redoing a whole room seems overwhelming (maybe not for a normal person but for us, right now it seems overwhelming), we decided to take it in baby steps and be Bedroom Update Buddies. Which sounded a lot less lame in my head. It’s important, though, because life is hard, and this is a crazy time to be alive, and sometimes we need help, even with little things.

As for our baby steps, Shannon has purchased a new headboard that is BEAUTIFUL (think oak with rattan panels). I, somewhat less impressively, got some new bedding and made the bed. Using the Home Goods pillows.

The next baby step is painting the walls. I’m going with Wilmington Tan by Benjamin Moore. Shannon is leaning towards something very bold, which I love, but after living with hospital room pale grey for years, this is bold enough for me right now. I am still hating the bedside tables and basically everything else in the whole room, but one step at a time, lol.
